Feast of Saint Giles

Good morning. “Duc in altum!” In today’s Gospel Jesus invites His apostles to "put out into the deep" for a catch: “Duc in altum!” So too for us Jesus offers this invitation of blind trust to cast out into the deep and allow God to assume control of our lives. We are all invited to respond to Jesus’ invitation to just let go and trust. This same leap of faith is what we are called to when we make the covenantal promises of marriage. We cast out our love to each other and accept with blind trust that our faith in God will see us through. These words call to us the same today as they did on our wedding day. Or in the words of Blessed Pope John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter, Novo Millennio Ineunte: These words ring out for us today, and they invite us to remember the past with gratitude, to live the present with enthusiasm and to look forward to the future with confidence: " Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever"(Heb 13:8). We cannot expect to fully appreciate the greatness of what God has in store for us as a couple unless we are willing to allow Him to take us by the hand, take that leap of faith, and allow Him to take us there. Renew that leap of faith today. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint Giles—Abbot.
