Good morning. In today’s Gospel from Luke we find the Blessed Virgin Mary traveling to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Mary offers an act of kindness. Despite Mary herself being pregnant she travels some distance to visit her cousin, to be with her and to help her with preparing for the birth of John the Baptist. This act of kindness serves as an example for each of us to not just focus upon our own needs. It serves as a reminder for those of us who are married, that we must strive to move beyond our own needs and attend to one another. Selfless acts of kindness go a long ways toward keeping a marriage vibrant and alive. Sometimes just the simplest things mean a great deal. In our day to day acts of kindness we live the example given by Mary in the visitation which we celebrate today, and, even more so, we share in the love demonstrated by Our Lord in taking up His cross. The website ForYourMarriage, an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, offers many very simple ways to help keep our marriage alive. The authors of the website pose the question, “What have you done for your marriage today?” Today we celebrate an act of kindness in our celebration of the Visitation. What act of kindness might we offer our spouse today? Make a great day!
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
