Good morning. In today’s Gospel Jesus provides for us the key to complete happiness. He tells us that we need only love Him, and if we love Him we will do what is right, and He tells us this so our “joy might be complete.” Blessed Pope John Paul II, in his address to the youth in New Orleans on September 12 1987 reiterated this message of this morning's Gospel saying “What is in accord with the truth of Jesus is fulfillment, joy and peace, even if it means effort and discipline. What is not in accord with his truth means disorder, and when done deliberately it means sin. Deliberate or not, it eventually means unhappiness and frustration.” This message provides for each of us such a clear pathway for true happiness. This is so true for each of us, that if we just follow this very plain and clear truth, to love as Jesus loves life holds true happiness. To love as Jesus loves, as Blessed Pope John Paul II instructs, does require effort and discipline, but to overcome our selfishness and to treat one another as a gift from God provides a very clear path to happiness. Our Saint for today, Saint Philip Neri, said, “"Cheerfulness strengthens the heart and makes us persevere in a good life. Therefore the servant of God ought always to be in good spirits." So, find a way to be a gift of cheerfulness for each other today. Make a great day!
Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint Philip Neri.
