Feast of Saint Athanasius

Good morning. In today’s Gospel Jesus informs us that we must all be born anew. Each of us are born anew through baptism, when the priest baptizes us “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit.” Our Saint for today, Saint Athanasius said “For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.” What Saint Athanasius is saying to us is that in Baptism, we are united to Christ, that we share in His Passion, Death, and Resurrection and so become “partakers of the divine nature" For most of us it was not a choice, and for all of us it is a gift bestowed upon us by the grace of God. It is through the direction of our parents or significant others in our life we are led to clearer understanding of this gift from God. Our children look to us for direction, and much as Jesus provides the direction we need by the example of His life, we too provide similar direction for our children by the example of our lives. As parents we call upon God’s grace to provide the security and guidance a child needs to be healthy, happy, and holy. May we, through the intercession of the Holy Family, provide for our children this day all that they need to continue to respond to the call received in Baptism. May we through our actions and words today reflect the goodness and love of God so as to direct our children in His way. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint Athanasius.
