Feast of Blessed Villana de Botti

Good morning. Today we continue to hear some more words of wisdom from the Book of Sirach. We are told that forgiveness from God is there for the asking. “To the penitent God provides a way back, he encourages those who are losing hope and has chosen for them the lot of truth.” (Sir 17:20) We are likewise asked to do the same; being open to forgiveness and allowing ourselves to let go and move forward is absolutely necessary for a lasting marital relationship. And in the Gospel for today we are again reminded that all things are possible for God. If we are able to hand the matters we struggle to forgive over to God and if we are willing to ask for His Grace there is nothing, absolutely nothing we cannot overcome. Blessed Villani, whose life we commemorate today struggled with forgiveness, she struggled deeply with how to forgive herself. As the life of Blessed Villani demonstrates, forgiving ourselves or our spouse is not always easy but it is important that we find it within ourselves to do so. Forgiveness is not a message we send to suggest we accept what happened, no forgiveness is about not allowing ourselves to hand over our happiness to whatever needs to be forgiven. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. We may believe the matter awaiting our forgiveness is insurmountable, but as the readings for today indicate all is possible with God. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Blessed Villani de Debotti.
