Feast of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich

Good morning. Today in Mark’s Gospel (Mk 7:14-23) Jesus is addressing the people in response to a challenge once again from the Pharisees regarding dietary religious laws.  In response to the exaggerated concern by the Pharisees upon external issues Jesus indicates that it is of much less concern what goes into a person’s mouth than that which comes out of a person’s mouth.  He said, “…the things that come out from within are what defile” and He is referring specifically to such things as “from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.”  Now, we know Jesus appreciates the importance of what goes into a child as any of us who are parents appreciate the importance of providing a good example; He was just taking a moment to note the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.  As parents we know that if we want our children to be good people we need to be good people.  If we want our children to be respectful we must treat them with respect. Nothing else is more indelibly etched in the minds of our children then that which they experience.  If as parents we offer our children good moral examples, desirable values and traditions to uphold, and a loving home to turn to in times of need, then they will become the good people we want for them to be.  So, be the parent you want your child to be.  Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich.
