Good morning. Today in Mark’s Gospel Jesus finds himself confronted with a decision, to attend to a crippled man and invite the criticism of the Pharisees, or to ignore the situation. He chooses to go with the act of kindness. “Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out and his hand was restored.” Each of us from time to time encounters situations where we are given the opportunity to offer a simple act of kindness, if but to only offer a smile. Beyond just being the right thing to do, as parents we need to remind ourselves that often times our children are watching and learning from what we do. If as parents we wish to instruct our children to treat others with kindness we need to show them. To successfully teach our children to be kind and courteous it requires going beyond instruction, it needs to be demonstrated. It must be taught by example. It is important for our children to learn early how their simple act of kindness can make such a difference in someone’s life, and one way to teach this beyond their seeing us performing acts of kindness is in allowing them to be recipients of acts of kindness. Why not do something kind for your child today. Make a great day!
Today we recall the good life and work of Saint Jozef Sebastian Pelczar.
