Feast of Saint Bernadine Realino

Good morning. It is truly of interest that a scribe would refer to Jesus as a “teacher” and even more incredible that a teacher of the law would ask to follow Jesus. Obviously Jesus had an amazing impact on the people about Him that He would have such an influence on this scribe in today’s Gospel. In fact as we know Jesus had such an impact on others that His life and example to others changed the world. It is likely that we all know of people in our own life experiences that have influenced us in such a way as to move us to want to emulate them. As parents we should pray that our own lives are such that our children should want to follow in our example and that in the process they find themselves likewise following Jesus. Our current day culture offers so little in the way of desirable role models or heroes, but certainly one hero who is forever there for us to look to is Jesus, which is why as parents we should teach our children to look at what is truly important in life. When it comes to parenting it is too important a task to leave the responsibility to others. We should routinely instruct our children to look to the lives of the saints as examples of how to live. It is through our role as parents that our children come to know and want to follow Jesus, and when done well the results move well beyond our own family. When successful our influence on our children goes forth to positively influence other’s lives. As Blessed Pope John Paul II noted in Familiaris Consortio “parents not only communicate the Gospel to their children, but from their children they can themselves receive the same Gospel as deeply lived by them. And such a family becomes the evangelizer of many other families, and of the neighborhood of which it forms part.” We too can change the world. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and work of Saint Bernadine Realino.
