Feast of the Martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist

Good morning. Today’s Gospel offers to us a lesson on making the choice to please God versus pleasing others. Concerning marriage if we are making choices which are pleasing to God then we cannot help but have a marriage which is joyful and fulfilling. God is the author and designer of marriage and from the beginning He has given us all the instructions we need to have a successful marriage. If a husband and wife are both seeking God and choosing to please God then their marriage will likewise be pleasing for them. If our life choices are those which are pleasing to God all will go well for us. Choosing the right thing will not necessarily keep us from harms way, but it will direct us to a life of true joy. If we wish to have a joy-filled marriage, our marriage must be directed by God. As we are reminded in the Book of Joshua, and throughout all of scripture, our marriage needs to be planted and built in God who is always there for us. “As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” If we are pleasing to God, then we'll be pleasing to our spouse. Our Saint for today, John the Baptist points the way to true joy for all of us. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint John the Baptist.
