Feast of Saint William of York

Good morning. Marriage, as a sacred union, is rooted in God’s plan for oneness. Again today we revisit in John’s Gospel this idea of oneness with God. “Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one.” Since the beginning God has had a plan for oneness and we see this in the complementarity of the marital union and we see it in the gift of self found in the marital relationship. It is suggested in Gaudium et Spes that “Man finds himself only by making himself a sincere gift to others” and we certainly find this in the Sacrament of Marriage. It is in the Sacrament of Marriage we can come to appreciate God's plan for oneness. In marriage we find spouses giving themselves totally and lovingly to one another and cooperating with God in the act of creation. Love cooperates with God, who is Love, in creating love. It just doesn’t get any better than that. Make a great day!

Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint William of York.
