Good morning. In today’s Gospel we are reminded that the Eucharist is the covenant that Jesus has made with His Church. Regarding the Eucharist, Blessed Pope John Paul II indicated that the Eucharist is the greatest gift Christ has given to married couples in fulfilling their marriage covenant. In his Apostolic Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio, Blessed Pope John Paul II indicated that in the Eucharist "Christian spouses encounter the source from which their own marriage covenant flows, is interiorly structured and continuously renewed. The marriage covenant is part of the covenant that Christ has with His Church. It is no less than that and because of that the Eucharist is the greatest and single most assistance to married couples in fulfilling their own covenant.” I personally know that no matter where my wife and I may be prior to praying the Mass together, our relationship is richer upon leaving the Mass. To echo a well known credit card commercial:
‘The homily…captivating…The offertory…presentable…The Eucharist…Priceless!’
No matter where we are at in our marital journey we cannot go wrong in taking part in the Eucharist together. When we partake in what the Book of Revelation refers to as being the “marriage supper of the Lamb” we are given the Grace to grow in communion with each other toward better fulfilling our marital promises to one another, and to grow in our ability to love as God loves. Make a great day!
Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola.
