Good morning. “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” The Gospel passage this morning once again tells us that the path to true peace and happiness is found in following Jesus. Knowing this we tend to persist in looking for these things everywhere but in the very place we should be looking. We continue to look to or fail to let go of riches, glamour, popularity, position or other relationships in an attempt to find that elusive sense of peace. As I reflected this morning on today’s Gospel it occurred to me that often the very things which provide for security and contentment in a marriage are the very things which we seem to struggle with the most. It can be so frightening to place one’s total faith in that one other person, to let go of former relationships or stuff. So often, the intimacy and faith in one another which should be there to see us through, and provide for the peace and happiness we seek, gets rejected; we instead find ourselves looking elsewhere. No matter how much we cling to things familiar or how much we amass in the way of stuff peace and happiness still elude us. So often our search for happiness finds us taking the wrong path, we often find ourselves taking a more familiar path or one which seems easier, and as a result we lose sight of our goal. We need only look to the Holy Family for an example of how letting go of the familiar and things of this world, and having faith in God and each other provides for the lasting marriage and happiness we seek. We need to keep our eyes on each other and upon God to truly find our way. Where will we look for happiness today? Dear Holy Family show us the way. Make a great day!
Today we recall the good life, gifts, and works of Saint George Preca.
