As a Marriage and Family Therapist I celebrate the chance to help married couples come to a better understanding of the Sacrament of Marriage. Sadly we have lost a sense of marriage as it was intended by God in the beginning. This blog is about marriage as it applies to scripture and the lives of the saints. As a Marriage Counselor I invite you to walk with me on a journey within the rich anthropology of our faith. The sacredness of Marriage is what this blog, and my work is all about.

Holy Thursday
Good morning. Today’s Gospel offers to us one of the most important lessons Jesus has to offer us. It sums up in its entirety what we are to be about. “Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” (Jn 13:12-15) This one single act sums up what as married couples we are to be about, this gift of self and His message to us should be a reminder to us what we are called to each and every day in our relationship with our spouse and with others in our lives. This is, in a very special way, what we are called to in marriage, for without sacrifice and self-denial the love between a wife and a husband just cannot exist. This lesson in today’s Gospel sums up for us what we are each called to, to love, and it is not possible to do so except by our willingness to engage in self-denial and to give of ourselves. Make a great day!
